I bought a couple of days ago a Navitimer 92 over ebay, which appears to have an issue with its power reserve (not made known by the seller, and hence a surprise for me)
Basically, after wearing it for half a day or more, it won't hold power until the next morning, when I find it stopped and needing readjustment. Now I know this is a 20+ years watch, so I wouldn't expect the full 42h power reserve it had when new, but still, I think it's reasonable to expect it to be working after a night's sleep.

Service history for the watch was unknown (so it's very likely it wasn't serviced in a decade or so). My question is: how serious and costly would this problem be to fix? Is it a matter of changing the power spring / cleaning it, or it can be a deal breaker? Depends on this, I would be evaluating whether to try to return it or have it fixed.

Did you give it a full wind before wearing? If not I wouldn't expect half a day of wear to give it much power reserve.

That's excessive. While you can't overwind an automatic a full wind is 40 turns, anything above that is redundant.

A Breitling modified 2892-A2 which, per Breitling, requires 40 turns.

Thanks guys!
After giving it a full winding and then leaving it be, it's still working 20h later. So I guess this was the problem. I have a few other automatics and even if I wear them for a few hours they gather enough energy to last through the night, that's why I was surprised that the Navi didn't. Glad I sorted this out, with your help :)
