Hey Everyone,

Just obtained my first Breitling...a super ocean heritage 46mm with steel band; Black face and black bezel. Read through the FAQ's beforehand, but at this point I'm wondering if there's anything I need to do to get this set up? The watch came with the hour and minute correctly set, but the second hand isn't moving...figure I need to manipulate the crown (really briefly read through the instructions)

Thanks in advance and looking forward to being part of this community.

If it is the non chrono version and the second hand isn't moving while the minute and hour are there is something very strange happening. If it is the chrono version you are probably looking at the chrono seconds rather than the running seconds.

Thank you. It is indeed the chrono version. That probably is the stop watch-related hand I'm looking at. Is it necessary to wind the dial beforehand as instructed even though the time is correct? How often do these need to be wound?

Using search will help you. The power reserve is around 42 hours so give it a full wind (40 turns) and if worn daily and you are fairly active that should be enough. Occasional manual winding won't hurt.

You're right, I haven't searched yet and will be sure to do that. Are you saying giving it an initial 40 turns straight out of the box? Appreciate the help immensely.

Merry Christmas!

Yes, that is a full wind.

I never did any of this out of the box...I wore it for a day. The instructions aren't the clearest...but the date and time were set correctly out of the box. Am I missing something here?

You have no idea how much power reserve it had, so wind it fully to be sure, it takes 30 seconds and has no down side. The search function really will help you with the basics of operation.

I presume you didn't buy your watch at an AD or he would have given you a full explanation on how a mechanical watch works and how your mechanical watch works.
