Post subject:  How do you 'date' a Breitling ?.

Im guessing this may well be a topic already open on here somewhere.

Im buying myself a 2nd hand watch that i would like to date it to its manufacture year.
I want to buy the year book for it.

All i know is its a mid'ish 90's going by the pics i can find on Google.

Im guessing the serial number gives the year away ?.

Would anyone be able to help here ?.

Check out BreitlingSource.com, there is an article on dating Breitling watches.
The article states that the dating on the case between the lugs started in early 2000's and the bracelets in early 1990's.
Good luck

According to the model pics on here mine is the Early Chronomat.
The exact pic in fact with the dark face and gold sub dials.
Any idea the years these were made ?

If you post a photo of it + ref#, it can be "roughly" dated by looking at old catalogs.

I need a rough year of manufacture so i can buy the correct catalogue.

That Chronomat could be either late 80's or early 90's production. Can't recall if there was a Ref# change during that era.

OK, assuming the one you are buying is exactly the same as the one pictured and hands/dial are original, I would say it is the B13048 model made in 1993/94. That is when the "1884" was introduced on the dial as well as a the "B" on the chronograph seconds hand. The next model, the B13050 came right after and was produced until 1999 and had a solid gold wings logo on the dial.
It would really help if you posted pictures of your watch, both front and back.
