Manual says not to adjust time and calender b/w 8 and 3 but,

Post subject:  Manual says not to adjust time and calender b/w 8 and 3 but,
what happens if you don't wear your watch for a couple of days and the time stops between 8 pm and 3 am ? Technically, the watch still thinks that it is within this time period and hence do you have to wind it up, wait until the watch goes past 3 am and then adjust the time or can you adjust the time and then wind it up ?

Actually, the manual says:

1) Don't use the quick set date between 8pm and 3am
2) Don't move the time backwards between 8pm and 3am

There is absolutely no problem moving the time forwards between that period, the other warnings are to avoid potential damage to the date mechanism.

Of course you can just wind the watch manually once a day to prevent the power reserve running out, or put it in a watch winder when not wearing it for a while.

The manual that I am reading is slightly different, it reads :

" Nota bene: mechanical watches endowed with a date, day, month or moon phase indicator are equipped with a complex mechanism that is set into motion between 8:00 pm and 3:00 am. It is therefore vital to avoid adjusting the calender or moving the time backwards during this period."

I have no problem with not being able to move the time backwards during this period because I can just move the hands forward if need be. The problem lies in avoiding adjusting the calender. If the watch stops at lets say 11:30 pm and the next time I wear it, I will obviously move the hands forward in time to set it which would adjust the calender automatically. Because the watch is between that danger zone of 8-3, will I damage it by altering the calender during this time ?

If you alter it by moving the hands forward, you won't damage it.

Right.

By moving the hands forward all you are doing is moving he movement in exactly the same way that it would move if it were operating - just more quickly.

i had the same concern...was paranoid.

my watch stopped at around 10pm ...

so i waited during the next day till it was like 4 in the afternoon.

i moved the hands forward.


and it all worked out well..

You may have waited until 4 in the afternoon, however according to your watch, it still "thought" that it was at 10:00 pm. I don't think there is any concern as long as you are only moving the hands forward and the calender changes by itself as you are moving past midnight.
