First let me say I am a "new" Breitling owner. Have coveted the watches for many years.
I just acquired (by gift) a Breitling Antares. The giver had no knowledge of age or service history, if any.
My need is for advice about sending the watch to Breitling for service or would a local jeweler be able to do the job. Is it necessary to have it serviced? The watch seems to be running adequately at this time. Also, is the cost of having Breitling service it expensive. I've seen on the website it can cost upwards of $500.

Thanks to any and all who can offer me any information and advice.

P.S. I should have said "proud" new owner!!!

Welcome to BreitlingSource. I would never recommend unauthorised service, independents simply don't have access to the parts. If you don't know the service history of the watch I would be tempted to send it for service because you don't want to do damage by running the watch with no lubrication. Three hand service costs will be a little lower, but depending on the time since last service the costs may be increased by the need for additional work - Breitling will provide a quote.

If it is keeping good time and appears to have a decent power reserve then you can decide to defer servicing, just recognise it is a gamble that may cost you down the road.

Thank you Roffensain! Your advice is appreciated and sound. Since it's my first, I think I'll send it in. I plan on keeping it until I'm too old to see it!!
