Post subject: | Cosmonaute DB Question |
I am considering purchasing one I have found but have a question about the production number noted under the model number. Model #- A12023 Production #- 50004 My understanding was that less than 3000 of the DB versions were produced, so I'm confused about this number. Is the 5 part of the production or to denote something else? Could this number denote the 4th one produced? I will try and post a pic, but any help would be appreciated. ![]() ![]() Thanks J |

That's the serial number, not a production number. All modern Breitlings have a serial number (as well as the model number), but it's only Limited Edition watches that are also specifically numbered in terms of production - e.g. 19/1000, etc. Special Edition watches like this Cosie are not individually numbered in terms of sequential production. |

Well, except that the Lemania DB did have a sequential number like an LE, but without the /xxxx part. I wouldn't say there were definitively less than 3,000 produced but there were around that number. This clearly doesn't have that sequence and my guess is that it is a replacement service caseback (possibly the 4th one used). If it had been the 4th produced it would simply have 4 on it, not 50004. |

Appreciate the responses. I wondered about the case back being original. Would the case back have been replaced due to damage or just regular service? I would also wonder about other modifications/replacements that may have been done. There is no service history with the watch unfortunately. I'm guessing that may also affect the value? J |

Lemania DBs did have sequential numbering, casebacks would only be replaced due to damage. Lack of service history will lead a buyer to factor service cost into purchase price. |
