Hello Friends, Just got back from a Norweigen Cruise and went to a watch presentation on board. I enjoyed it very much but wanted to get a second opinion from you folks on something they mentioned. They mentioned to never play golf or tennis with your Automatic watch because it can "overwind" the mechanism. I remember when I purcahsed my watch I asked about overwinding and of course they will say just about anything to get you to buy a watch so they told me it wouldn't harm the watch. Does anyone have any further information on this? I don't play golf all that much, maybe ten times a year but I have been leaving my Everyday SuperOcean on to play. Thanks.

IMO I don't playing golf would harm an automatic in any way, but let's get more opinions from the pros here. I never wear a watch golfing, all my breitlings are heavy and will throw off my swing LOL

It cannot overwind.
The repeated high G-forces however, can be devestating for the delicate mechanism, and should therefore be avoided at all costs. There's lots of threads on this subject btw.

Lots of threads indeed. Many people will tell you that they play golf in automatics and have no issues but it is most certainly a very bad idea. Jaermann & Stubi did an analysis of the g forces involved during the development of their 'golf watches' and established that a successful drive could generate 100g of force. I suspect that the force involved in an unsuccessful shot could sometimes be far higher

Tennis will likely be less force, but still not recommended.

Good reason to buy an Aerospace. Quartz, light- weight, slim- line. Then again, isn't the point of golf to get away from your watch?

Or indeed just throw on a G-Shock for any kind of sports activity. Works for me!
