Hello please can someone help me, I my dad gave me a Breitling for Bentley a few weeks ago but I did not know you had to wind it up and I have just been shaking it to get it working. It has now not working at all I have tried shaking it and winding it but no joy the chronometer or the second hand will not work. Is it something I can fix but will I have to send it to Breitling for a service ???? |

Are you sure it is a real Breitling? With any automatic watch, shaking it would bring it back to life and you would see the small second sweephand moving. |

Well yes, but shaking a watch is not a recommended activity to wind the watch - winding it with the crown is much preferable and excessive shaking could cause any kind of damage. I suspect that when the OP refers to the 'chronometer hand' he actually means the chronograph hand which may not run unless the chronograph is activated. OP, after winding it (not shaking it) do any of the subdial hands move? |

You can't damage a watch by winding it. Unscrew the crown by holding it in your left hand and turning the crown towards you with your right finger and thumb. When the crown pops out to the first position it can be wound by turning it away from you. Give it at least 40 turns and then screw the crown back down by pushing it against the case while turning the crown away from you. Then tell us what if anything is moving. |

OK, so one last thing to try. Hold the watch upright and slowly rotate it through 360 degrees - i.e. looking at the dial turn it so that the 12 o'clock position is at 9, 6, 3 and then back to 12. If the watch is out of beat that will get it working, if not then it will need Breitling service attention. Excessive shaking of the watch could have caused any number of potential issues. |

If what you mean I have held my breiting up right and turned it 360 degrees. Is there anything else you would recommend doing, because Breitling service's are jolly expensive. Thanks for your help |

Sounds like a trip to your local Authorized Breitling dealer is in order. Check the Breitling website for the nearest one. Good luck! ![]() http://www.breitling.com/en/retailers/list/ |

Thanks for your help Take it to an AD to get them to look at it. If winding isn't working then something is wrong with it, likely caused by the fact that you kept shaking it. You might also want to try posting pictures of it just to make sure that it's real. |
