Post subject:  Breitling Hercules - Locking and Non-Locking Crown versions?

Hi chaps,

I recently purchased a very nice Hercules (A39362), paperwork dated 2007, so I'm guessing a fairly late model based on the production life (2002-2006).

I've had 3 Hercules watches before, but this one seemed faulty - the Crown would not screwdown to lock, it was a straightforward 'press-in' type. My watchmaker glanced at it, and concurred there was a problem - surely a serious diver watch would have a 'screwdown to lock' Crown?

Apparently not  - some surfing (on here and elsewhere) suggests that the Hercules model was produced both with and without a Screwdown Crown. However, I can't find anything definitive.

Do the Model Numbers differentiate between the two types (I think the previous models I've had have been the A39363, whereas this is the A39362)? If not, what is the difference between the two models?

Or was it a question of when the watch was produced? Did earlier models have the Press-In Crown, with later models changing to Screwdown Crowns? Or Vice Versa?

As always, any pointers/advice will be gratefully received.

Model number is for the screw down crown - 63 is screw down, 62 is push in, otherwise they are identical.

63 is later, but not sure on the exact cutover date.
