I already have an Avenger Skyland but most likely going to purchase a Super Avenger for my Xmas present. Anyway I feel I would like to maybe purchase a winder of some sort even if it is just to display both watches. I would assume that as I have a manual job(trade) that I will probably wear one more than the other but we'll see. That means that for longer periods than I might like, one watch won't get so much wear, so after reading some posts on here i'm in a bit of a quandrie. Anyway, anybody got any good ideas which don't cost the earth cos my watch fund for the year is about to run out or in all honesty ran out in June. :D

Cheers

Andrew

There are any number of 'cheap' winders out there - just look at the Bay. The problem is that they virtually all use chinese motors that will soon become noisy and not long after that are likely to become permanently silent.

We all know that winders tend to be hugely overpriced, but I would wait until you can afford a decent one rather than spend money on one of the $100 ones and be without one in less than 6 months. The winder on the end of your arm is pretty efficient one.

You may want to check out the website JTV.COM click on watches and then you will locate winders as well. They sell Orbita and a few other very good brands. Money back if you don't like. Check them out. I hope that helps!

Thanks Roff and Rick. I have no problem spending £200 or £300 on a winder but I don't want to be spending anymore than that at the mo! I don't want to buy a cheap and cheerful Chinese mock up but I'll check out that site Rick and see how I get on.

Cheers

Andrew

Doc's on a PP fix right now, don't think he has any Breitlings at the moment.

Thanks idiot! :D

No, thanks for the heads up, they look quite good and a damn good price but I think I'll go for one that looks a bit modern! Good info tho.

Cheers

Andrew

I use a 6 way winder by Official Time - one of the Van Gogh models in grey oak.

Being as they are made in Hong Kong, I'm sure they have the ubiquitous chinese motors in them, but to be fair to it, it's actually proved MORE reliable than a 2 way Rapport that I used to have...... and cost less even though it's got 4 more winder-cups!

It was silent in operation for far longer than my Rapport was, but it has become a little more noisy recently. Still not horrendous by any means, just not totally silent.

All in all, mine has been great value, but obviously that is no guarantee that you'll have the same experience! I'd go so far as to say that IMHO all winders are basically a rip-off when you consider how flakey the internals seem to be, and you seem to just be either lucky or unlucky whenever you buy one. For example, Rapport are seen as a good make, but mine went back for repairs after 6 months, and still ended up being so noisy that I couldn't have it out in the bedroom! By contrast, Official Time seem to be seen as fairly well-finished boxes (which they are) but with fairly cheap internals (which I can't say as it's sealed.... but they probably are!), but mine has been fine.

You "pays ya money and ya takes ya chances"!
