Post subject:  AAAARRRGGGHHHH my watch stopped

I woke up this morning (sounds like the intro to a blues song.lol) and my watch had stopped at 2.10am.

I've had my Breitling Super Avenger for 4 and a half year and never had any issues with it I wear it 24/7 and only take it off for sports (I did drop it on the floor the night before but its a really hard wearing and I don't think it would have done it any damage.) I gave it the obligatory shake and it kicked in again however only lasted a few minutes and then stopped.

Can I re-wind it up with the 40 turns like I did when I purchased it or.....

apologies for the inexperience but I really don't know what to do and i'm scared I do more damage.

thanks for your help.

Try manually winding it and see if that works, but it sounds like it may need service. You say would had it for 4 1/2 years, has it ever been in for service before?
There are scheduled service intervals every two years to do regular maintenance and if that hasn't been done than maybe that's the case, but try winding it like I said and see if that helps.

I'm more concerned about the proximity of the floor strike to the watch stopping. BUT by all means wind it - you cannot over-wind or hurt it. If it solves the problem - great. If not, you have ruled out the most obvious fix. Then it goes off to service. It could be as simple as a retaining screw came loose from the strike and is keeping the rotor from winding the mainspring.

I doubt that it's an automatic winding issue as it stopped too quickly - would have still had power reserve. No surprise that shaking it didn't solve the problem - if there's no power reserve or if there is a problem with the running train then that will do nothing except perhaps more damage. As already said a full wind isn't going to help, but the fact that it stopped just after being dropped indicates that there may be a problem, and if you have had the watch for 4 1/2 years then it is likely in the service window anyway so power reserve will be relatively low and a service is in the near future regardless of whether there is an immediate issue.
