Post subject:  Bentley GT Day/Date Set Question

I have looked at two used Bentley GTs that did something similar when setting day/date. I followed manual exactly. However, the day/date didn't flip at midnight. The day changed at around 4 and the date changed at 8. Why might this be? They both kept perfect time. I just saw this when setting it. I see the manual warns against adjusting date between 8 and 3. Is it related to that???

That sounds like somebody before you wasn't following the directions. I have the bentley gt and my day finishes changing at 1156 and the date finished at 1202. 8 and 4 isnt even close.

The fact that neither is at 12 may simply be the hands are set incorrectly. The fact that both aren't around 12 could be damage caused by the misuse of the quickset date, or it may simply be an error in the assembly of the movement.

Either way it will need Breitling attention to fix, if the watch is under warranty then get it sorted, if it's out of warranty and everything is still changing OK then I would try and live with it until the watch needs servicing and then mention it to them rather than incur additional costs separate from servicing.

After much shopping around for a nice used one, I bought this one on eBay, even though I knew this did something similar to the other one I looked at--flipping at the wrong time. I returned the other one thinking there was an issue. The guy who sold me this offered to do an adjustment on the hands before I agreed to buy. I declined. He gave me a two year warranty. It keeps good time and is very nice, so I am going to live with it. When I get it serviced the first time, I will have it looked at. Since I decided to buy it, I didn't want him messing with it. Should I only go through a Breitling retailer to get this serviced. There are very few around.

Yes, yes and most definitely, yes!

Check Breitling.com for the service centres that cover your area - you can send direct rather than through an AD.

On that point, is there any advantage / disadvantage or does it just keep the additional margin with the service centre / distributor and away from the AD?

Swings and roundabouts - sometimes an AD will waive the fee for sending it in, but it's another step in the chain. Personally I prefer to deal direct because it makes communication easier, but my office is a 2 minute walk from the Canadian service centre which makes it easier
