| Post subject: | To wind or not to wind? |
While I've owned automatics before, here's my question: do most people manually wind their watches weekly? I've heard varying opinions. I have been putting my Superocean on a winder at the end of the day, especially if I wore it that day for less than six hours. Opinions? |

Opinions? It really does come down to the amount of wrist time they get. The power reserve should be at least 42 hours so you shouldn't have a problem if you only wear the watch for a few hours. Having said that, if you only wear it for a few hours every day and aren't particularly active with it on then it will likely not regain a full charge. With 'normal' daily wear you won't need to wind, beyond that it depends. My wife wears her automatic for a total of about 48 hours a week and never has to wind it, but she is usually moving around all the time. Of course with the slip clutch system in an automatic there is no danger of overwinding so the occasional turn of the crown or time on a winder isn't going to hurt. |

I've noticed that I need to wind my watch regularly or I tend to just wind it myself once a week! I'm wearing mine usually 6pm to 11pm most weeknights and usually Saturday night and all day Sunday. It has stopped twice since I purchased it and one of those times was because I left the Chrono running for a couple of days without wearing it(accident)! Its my first Breitling so I'm not sure what the norm is but I don't have any problems with winding mine once a week. I don't suppose that would do any damage but I'm sure someone on here with more knowledge will soon step in to correct me! Cheers. |

Cheers. You're right Andrew, it will not hurt your AS. For my own watches, I wind them when I attach them to my arm, if the power reserve has gone out and the watch wasn't on a winder. It's a nice morning ritual...

I tend to wind my watch when I "feel" like I havent worn it in a while to keep from dying... |
