Hey folks,
I have a Breitling Chronomat that I purchased in 1989 and haven't seen many that are like it. Does anyone know how rare this are, what they are worth, and the history of these watches? I replaced the strap once and it has been serviced twice. It has a gold colored date and a round case back. Is the hardware plated or solid? I know the screws are plated. Are these quality timepieces? Any feedback is greatly appreciated!
Model: 81.950

Welcome to BreitlingSource. Not particularly rare two tone Chronomat - first generation of the modern Chronomats and relatively unchanged from mid 80s to mid 90s. http://www.breitlingsource.com/watch_de ... er_73.html

The rider tabs on the bezel are solid gold, the pushers and crown on early models were plated and later rolled gold (a 20 micron thich sheet of gold laminated over the steel).

General advice on value is to check completed auctions on eBay and dealer asking prices on Chrono24, these come up regularly so plenty of comparables. Value is going to be affected by the service history on a piece this old - it should have had at least 3 services by now, and probably 4.

About the servicing history, this watch from about 1997 to 2011 was not used, so I think it should be fine. Thanks for all the information.

Use is irrelevant, the oils break down over time whether it is worn or not. If that watch hasn't been serviced since before 1997 (or if it has never been serviced at all) then it should not be wound or worn. It is in desperate need of a service and without it there could be serious and very expensive damage being caused.

It was serviced immediately in 2011 when I began using it again. It was also serviced in 1994.
