Post subject:  Chrono Avenger M1 - hour hand not right
Hi there,

I have a Chrono Avenger M1 that is under a year old.

The hour hand runs 1/2 way slow, i.e. when it is 15:00 the hour hand is in the 14:30 position. When it is 15:30 the hour hand is on the 3 marker.

I am going to send it back, but I am wondering if it is just a minor issue where the movement needs recalibrating or whether there is something more sinister afoot that should lead me to ask for them to replace the movement or similar?

It sounds like the cogs (or the hands) are misaligned somehow. :? I can't imagine that it's anything too serious, especially if it's keep reasonable time (apart from being 1/2 hour out). However, I'm no watchmaker, so I'm just guessing here. Either way it's got to be one for an AD to sort out.

Hi there,

Thanks for the reply. The only thing I can think of that could have caused misalignment is as follows.

I put my watch on the windowsill in my bathroom and went into the shower, and as I went to pick it up it fell off the windowsill into the bath.

Fortunately the side of the watch hit my foot rather than the bath (it probably would have cracked the bath if it had hit it :D ) There is absolutely no damage to the watch as it just hit my foot, so I would imagine my foot absorbed most of the impact - the bruise on my instep sure makes it look like that's what happened.

I don't know whether this minor fall has caused it or not, but my Tag Heuer 2000 series Quartz has had a damned site more abuse than my Breitling, and that has never skipped a beat.

I would be really surprised if my Breitling (which cost almost 3 times as much as my Tag and is also supposed to be a durable watch) couldn't handle that fall without messing up the innards.

Mechanical watches are more sensitive than quartz.
EDIT: I don't read carefully, didn't noticed it's M1. :oops:

Hmmmmm, maybe the hour hand slipped a little on impact. The hands are just pushed on and usually they are pretty tight, but maybe it just moved a little.... or maybe it jumped a tooth on one of the cogs inside. Again, I'm guessing on the actual reason, and I certainly wouldn't have expected it, especially from a quartz movement, but then any watch is susceptible to knocks and impacts.

Hope your AD can sort it out.
