Hello forum members, I am new to Breitling watches and last week i bought the Breitling Blackbird. The watch itself looks in real good condition and i really admire it. There is just one thing i am not so sure about and that is the Saphire crystal/ AR coating of the watch. I was looking at an Airwolf with a flat crystal before and i remember the glass was so clear you could not see it being there. Looking at my BB crystal i don't have the same effect with this watch. I did some searching on the forums and found the the AR coating will make your watch look blue or purple at certain angles. The dial of my BB just always look black. In fact if i look to the crystal closely, it will work a bit like a mirror so i can see my own face in it. I was wondering if this effect is normal with cambered/ domed crystals with double AR coatings or if there is something wrong? I know some forum members remove the AR coating for personal reasons but i don't think the previous owner did this without informing me. The watch itself looks in great condition. I appreciate your feedback! |

Not always easy to tell from photos, but that does look as though the outer AR may have been removed. |

Not 100% sure but looking at that photo I would say the AR coating is gone from the crystal. Light reflections should have a hint of blue to them. Hopefully these pictures give you the idea. The blue reflection in the bottom part of the crystal ![]() This is a watch with a black dial. The AR coating on the crystal makes it look blue. ![]() Another example ![]() |

thanks for the feedback. I do not get to see the blue tint unfortunately. Should this be possible? you can see my iPhone when making the picture. |

As wessa and I said, it looks like the AR has been removed from the outside of the crystal. That's way too reflective and as wessa's photos show there should be a blue tinge. |

I would not worry about it too much. Just enjoy the watch and when it is due for a service and it still bothers than, ask Breitling to change the crystal for you as we'll. |

I do like to have it changed cause i am quite picky with things like this. I just went to the AD and they can get it changed when its going for service for an additional 360 euro..! Quite a let down ![]() |

As others have said, it is def that the AR has been removed. That's pretty common though as they get scratched up easily and some people hate the blue tint. You still have it on the inner side. On many used watches, the AR coating on the outside gets so scratched up the watch looks bad, so it is often removed with abrasive. It doesn't hurt function tho. |
