Post subject:  Difficulty in winding Navitimer 103

Hi all,

I just got a 5-year-old Navitimer 103 from my dad as a gift. The watch had not been worn for a couple of months, so I tried to wind it to power it up. However, I found it very difficult to wind the watch - much resistance - by the time I winded it 10 times, my fingers were already red and sore. I tried setting the date according to the instructions given in the manual, and again, the winding drove me nuts. My dad told me the watch had been like that all along.

I would like to know if this is a common problem with the Navitimer 103, or if there's something wrong with the watch (which means time for a trip to the service centre).

Thanks.

It sounds like it needs servicing. The caliber 23 movement is based on the Valjoux 7753, not buttery smooth but neither should it hurt to wind it. If the watch is 5 years old (or 5 years since first sold, making it older) then it's firmly in the window for a first service anyway.
