Post subject:  Aerospace hand alignment

I've noticed a few other posts about an issue with the alignment of the hands on the Aerospace.

I have just bought a second hand one (no pun intended) and, having managed to synchronize the analogue and digital time, think the alignment is way out. Before going back to the seller I would welcome any comments you guys have on whether this is reasonable.

Sorry for the picture quality.

Thanks

Renny

Is there a reset zero registration for the hands, or is that part of the synchroing?

You have to set the hands on a syncronising function. Once done you then reset the time by going to a different function and moving the hands. What I would have expected to see is when I set the hands to 12 the digital display would have shown 12:00. It's currently 13.26 according to the the digital display. The minute hand is on 26 (good so far) but the hour hand is slightly past the one and not nearly halfway between the one and two as you would expect.

I have had four Aerospace variants (one was a Chronospace so the same movement as the Aerospace, different case) and I'd say that was not at all right.

You have done the correct hand to digi sync, and I assume from what you say is that if you set the time to say 12:00 the hour hand is a little way behind the minute hand? From experience, the hour hand should always be exactly on the hour when he minute hand is at 12 not a bit in front or behind.

My Chronospace had a bit of 'slack' in the minute hand, which meant that the 30 second increments sometimes were full minutes, but evidently that was within spec (though I was never convinced).

The watch you show is an old and almost 'original' version of the Aerospace though IIRC the first one had the face labelled as Navitimer ... So it will have the now obsolete module that Breitling say is unrepairable, and would be exchanged for a SQ version at your cost!! So if it were me, I'd be somewhat concerned about whether Breitling or a Watch repairer would be able to sort the hands out in case there is more at fault than just the hands being incorrectly fitted or having slipped a bit.
