I just purchased my first Breitling a couple of days ago - the Ladies Cockpit Windrider w/Superquartz movement.

I set the time yesterday morning using the little clock in the upper right corner of the Breitling website, and thought I had it set correctly, but...

This morning when I checked the time on my watch against the same little clock, my watch was off (+) by about 12 seconds! This startled me, as the watch has a chronomatic certification that it says it has remained in a state of -4/+6 seconds per day for a continuous period of 2 weeks.

At this point, I am operating under the assumption that I did something wrong when I set the time the first time, and have begun a more formal test. I have reset the watch using a US time zone running clock and will perform 2 checks per day to monitor the time. I have created a table to record two weeks of time checks for purposes of record in the event that I end up returning it to the AD.

Has anyone ese run a time check on their quartz to see if it performes according to the certification? If this watch gains that much time each day, by the end of the week it's going to be going back to the AD. I don't mind saying that after paying this much for a fine timepiece...this has kind of rocked me.

I would suggest you set it from the atomic clock. Try that and see if you get any variance. My superquartz was always spot on.

The problem that you may have is your reference. The Breitling website doesn't have a clock - it has a little bit of code that shows the clock from the computer that is accessing the site - so if you access the site from different computers you'll get a different time.

Well I'm feeling MUCH relieved this morning - my Breitling is spot on time, right down to the second. Thanks to those that provided encouraging comments about their superquartz watches - I was pretty concerned, and my husband decended on the watch like a hawk to check it out. We both have a love of antique clocks, and he's a stickler for keeping all 30 or so of ours accurate, as well as the three watches he owns. You can imagine what the response would be if a Brietling didn't keep as good time as a $200 multi-functional digital sport watch that he got from Cabella's...what a relief!

Speaking of his Cabella's watch - If you're looking for a fun watch with a ton of functions, you might want to check this one out. It's a heck of a fun toy, and works beautifully, including keeping perfect time. It's not bad looking on the wrist either. It's the Casio Pathfinder, and my husband loves tinkering with all the functions on it. He liked it so much he got one for our son for Christmas last year, and he can't stop tinkering with it either. Our son is grown, but if you've got a teenaged son with a birthday coming up this is a pretty good bet. It's got lots of functions, looks fairly impressive, and is sturdy.

It's got a built-in altimeter, barometer, thermometer and digital compass, etc...lots of buttons and a nice big read out screen. Here's a link:

I know I'm a bit late on this topic & I'm glad your 'ling is living up to expectations.

My Colt II SuperQuartz loses less than 0.5 of a second over a 3 month period. The website I use as a reference has an accuracy of +/- 0.8 of a second.

BTW My wife's TAG (sorry for using bad language!) gains about 6 seconds a month.

By the way, I've got a Casio Pathfinder like that, but with a brushed bezel instead of the compass bezel. I love it, it's huge and it has lots of toys to play with. When I go running I've been using the altimeter to find out how high all my favourite hills are.

There is an article in August issue of WatchTime mag where someone monitored a Colt Quartz for a full year with an atomic clock. Not a single second of variation. Ever. Breitling really know what they're doing with their quartz models, the SuperQuartz technology seems to prove itself.

If true 100% down to the sceond accuracy was ever an issue, my Citizen A-T Skyhawk Ti dominates. Atomic Timekeeping, Eco-Drive, weighs almost nothing, water resistant etc. Nevermind the fact that it has gotten NO wrist time since I picked up my SA
