I purchased a Superocean Steelfish back in at the end of 2009. I initially had problems with the watch losing time (approx 2-3min per day) and returned it to Breitling who managed to re-calibrate the watch, resulting in it keeping the correct time. I don't wear the watch regularly and recently when I put the watch on again it was losing time again. I've eventually purchased a watch winder (Orbita Sparta) which keeps the watch wound and telling the correct time, although every time i put the watch on my wrist it loses between 5-10 min a day.

Does anyone know why this happens (it keeps the correct time on the winder but loses time when worn) :?:

Well a watch winder doesn't wind a watch, it simply stops a watch from winding down. I would give the watch 40 turns of the crown, then put it on the winder and see whether it is still losing 5 - 10 minutes when you wear it. I suspect that the less consistent movement of your wrist relative to a winder may be causing the watch to temporarily stop due to low power reserve.

If that doesn't work then we need to look for other options.

Roffensian is correct, the winder only maintains the current level of power reserve in the watch at the time you out it in the winder. A winder should make for a consistent time though. If that is not doing the trick, you might consider having the watch serviced by your Breitling dealer. Even watches that are not worn frequently need a "tune-up" occasionally.
