Post subject: | Thoughts on my Colt Pls? Sec. Hand / Re-Sale / Rec. / Gen. ? |
Hello All, {I edited the original post to this after folding in the correct information.} I have an interesting dilemma. I have a Colt GMT 2005 that I received as a wedding gift. The gift giver was my fiancé, then wife, and now….my former wife. While I love the watch, I think I need to let it go for reasons I think you understand. I have a few questions that I was hoping to get some feedback on though…… 1) The second hand has stopped moving. It will work, but only after I’ve shaken it a few times. The clock still keeps the correct time, but I’m thinking that if I’m going to sell it, I might want to get that fixed first. Agree, or disagree? And if you agree and you were me, where would you be going to get it serviced? 2) Any idea what the best way for me to sell it would be? I’m pretty sure eBay isn’t the best spot for it, but open to it if the Ling-heads think so. 3) I really love the watch, and when I sell it, I’ll likely get something similar, but with no history attached. That said, anyone have any recommendations that are in a similar price range? 4) Per the very helpful link from TomP below (thanks Tom), I’ve concluded that the watch is a Colt GMT 2005, with the black background http://www.breitlingsource.com/watch_details/Aeromarine_62.html Thanks for your patience with this newbie! |

No idea whether yours is real (tho I think I've read it here that there weren't many Colt fakes of any sort), but that's a Colt GMT, 2005-8, 2010-2011, A32350: http://www.breitlingsource.com/watch_de ... ne_62.html |

would you be so kind and remove that link to a replica site ? this is against forum rules - and taken rather seriously ! |

Let's see a photo of it before we get carried away with anything else. .jpg files up to 200k can be attached directly to your posts and for larger files the instructions are here - viewtopic.php?f=5&t=453 Until we can specifically identify the model there's not much advice that we can give. |

Model identified = Colt GMT 2005. Any thoughts from the veterans in the group? |

Well the symptoms don't make much sense. If the watch is running but the seconds hand isn't moving then the default assumption is that the hand is loose - the wheel must be rotating or the watch wouldn't run. If shaking the watch (which isn't a good idea) causes the seconds hand to run then that doesn't sound like a loose hand - it's weird. Bottom line is that something is wrong and you really need at least an estimate of the repair cost before selling or you are going to get offered virtually nothing for it because of the unknown issues. Selling and replacing is probably not relevant until you at least know what you are dealing with cost wise for repairs. |

Thanks Roff, will do. If you're me, do you go to a certified Breitling repair location (which, I believe, will bend me over financially because of the name), or would you be going to a neighborhood jeweler? |

No brainer - Breitling. Otherwise your watch is worthless because it isn't a Breitling after the jeweller has hacked at it - they don't have access to Breitling parts. They will also reuse the hands (because they can't get the parts) which won't fit as well - they are pressure fit and designed for single use. If the problem is partially due to a loose hand anyway that will just make it worse. |
