I have a situation that I am thinking has come up before for someone on the forums. I have a Superocean, model A17340. This is the model that is COSC certified, so normally you have the COSC hang tag and certificate. However, I am wondering if the COSC certificate was sent with the 1999/2000 model. I called Breitling, who told me to call the AD. I called the AD to order the COSC certificate, who placed the order. However, after 9 weeks, the AD stated to me that Breitling never had a COSC certificate for the early model 17340 and then canceled the order. I am not sure that is correct about the COSC certificate for this early model watch. I would like the certificate, if it was available for this watch, but I am wondering if it might be true that the certificates were only issued on the later models.

If they were on this model, can you advise if there is another way to order the COSC certificate? I believe the AD in question will not be of any assistance.

Any assistance is appreciated.

thanks!

Let's start with a little clarification. What we all refer to as a COSC certificate is actually a Breitling issued document that attests that the COSC did certify the movement. The actual COSC issued document goes to Breitling and is never issued to the customer. That said, as far as I know all Breitling certified pieces (which yours certainly is) were issued with the Breitling document so it should be possible to get a replacement.

Not sure who you contacted when you say that you called Breitling - whether that was the regional distributor or Breitling in Switzerland, but I would try Swiss customer service if you aren't getting joy elsewhere.

Sorry if I'm being thick but how can Breitling put a 3 in the model number if they've not received a COSC certificate? Sounds to me like someone's telling porkies!

I actually called BUSA and they directed me back to the AD. I cannot locate the COSC certificate that Breitling issues with the watch (the yellow doc with the information listed) and wished to get a replacement. I had seen that they are available as a replacement for a cost and I am happy to pay that fee for a replacement. I am just not sure how to go about that at this time since BUSA will only direct me to the AD and the AD is stating that Bretiling does not have a certificate for this model watch. So I conclude that the AD is incorrect in stating the certificate is not available and I have to think they just never placed my order and stated " not available" to get me to drop it. I am not saying that is correct; it is just the conclusion to which I have arrived.

Is there any other way to procure this certificate?

I would suggest that you PM jnelson3097 or FEAR (two of the forum sponsors) to see if they can be of help.

As I suggested above, try Breitling in Switzerland, or as wessa suggested once we knew that you were in the US try the sponsor ADs.

Will do, thanks. I was not sure if Breitling in Switzerland would just direct me back to BUSA or not.
