Well, I finally did it?

I'm not sure why, and I'm still kicking myself; but after years of admiring the yellow dials in my local jeweller, wandering in and trying them on (telling myself, one day), I finally bit the bullet and bought myself the watch of my dreams.

The thing is as soon as I did it I regretted it.

I did it in the worst way possible. On a whim, over the net, with every bone in my body going - Don't do it. Something's not right. Just turn around and walk away.

But the chance of a bargain was too much. I know nearly all the watches on eBay are fake. And I know if something is too good to be true, then it usually is.

Anyway, you guessed it. I bought it. And I'm immediately regretting it. My question is: now that I have this watch, how do I go about getting it certified (ever the optimist!) that it's authentic? Also, how long does the process take, as eBay and PayPal buyer protection policies only last for 40 days.

Thanks in advance for your help and advice.

Really?!!

You guys are that good? (Or are the fakes that bad?)

I don't have the watch yet, and I don't have a macro lens. But when I do, I'll be sure to post some pictures... Any particular parts of the watch that I should take photos of for you guys.

Are you sure, that will be enough? The watch comes with all manner of certification - shouldn't I be sending off serial numbers to Switzerland or something? Shouldn't the movement be being looked over by old me with grey hair, monicals and a lifetime of experience making watches?

Just a decent dial photo will be enough.
Checking the movement is mostly done when authenticating vintage watches.

whether vintage or current models, a link to the auction is all it takes.

Post it in the appropriate forum

Current models and all watches after mid 80s:
viewforum.php?f=9

vintage watches:
viewforum.php?f=31

you should have a competent answer within hours (normally minutes)

and are fakes that bad: most are

Thanks. I've started a new thread with a link to the completed listing. If you could take a look and give me your initial thoughts that would be great... And when the watch arrives I'll post up som better pictures for you.

If it's fake. Fine. I can deal with that. But if you think I paid too much, I'd rather not know if that's OK. If the watch is real, I think I got an OK deal, and you know what they: ignorance is bliss.

However I know nothing about these watches. Just that I have always wanted this exact model - but could never afford it... Still can't actually, but a glass or two of vino after a bad day at work makes a man throw caution to the wind!

Jeesh, I hope it works out for you but I just can't beleive that people spend money on watches where it being real is 50/50...

BTW, most of the watches on e-bay are not fake, maybe overpriced, but not fake..
