Post subject:  Transocean Chronograph date change problem

Hi all,

Hope you can help.

I have a Breitling Transocean Chronograph, still under warranty. It's working well other than the date change, which changes date at 4 minutes to midnight rather than midnight. It does do it "instantaneously" but it's somewhat annoying that it does so at the wrong time every time (even if it is CONSISTENTLY the same wrong time).

Is this a common problem?

Should it be a quick fix by an authorised repair center?

I'm somewhat loathe to send it in for a repair already as it's otherwise fine, but I'd prefer to get it done under warranty if it's a sign that there may be other trouble ahead.

Any advice appreciated.

It is not a problem, your TO is perfectly normal.

It just seems odd that it would be set to change date at the wrong time, given that the display is set up to change so quickly... An unusual quirk?

That's actually pretty common with many watches. My Datejust switches over a few minutes after midnight every night.

Interesting - I knew the date change happened variably with most automatic watches but didn't expect it with the "instant date change" function. Intuitively you'd think it should tick over at midnight as it happens quickly.

Any other "instant date change" models out there which do the same?

Don't worry.....Its not a Quartz watch....This is the way with mechanical watches.
Breitling, Rolex,Tag, on and on....It's OK.

More or less every single watch out there.

My TO Chrono does the same. Not loosing any sleep over it.
I would start worrying if the date has not changed by the time you wake up in the morning ;-)

Same movement, not surprising.
I guess the Chronomat 01 owners would be able to share a similar observation?

4 minutes is really good. My navi 01 does the same.

Try a 7750 based movement. It starts changing at 10:30 pm and finishes after midnight.

That must be why I've been waking up every night at 4 minutes to midnight since I brought my TOC home.

That's true w/7750-based movements. As it was always annoying to
1. see the discs slowly moving before midnight and
2. I couldn't set date and day - say - at 8-9 PM
I let them re-calibred by a fine watch-maker and now every 7750 I own starts calender change at cca. 0:30 and ends at about 02:00 AM. So I'm sure what I see till cca. midnight is fine, and by midnight I usually already sleep. What's more, this way I can safely adjust calender till cca. 21:00-22:00 which time I usually do this.
Hope this helps!
Best,
Robert
