Hi all, Here's a curious one for you....... I have a dual watch winder with extra storage. I have a Montbrillant Datora, Chronomat & Superocean Steelfish. I usually have two on the winder and one on the wrist. All watches keep great time when on the winder or my wrist & both the Chronomat and Montbrillant Datora also flick over the date as designed at midnight. The strange thing is the Steelfish. It keeps great time, but after being on the winder for a few days, it stops flicking over to the next date at midnight. I'll pick the thing up after it being on the winder for a few days and the date window has stopped a few days ago. What could be causing this? I have noticed that if I give it a good manual wind, this issue seems to disapear for a bit. Your thoughts.............? |

The watch winder has nothing to do with it. It is a lubrication problem - oils not evenly distributed. Easy fix most of the times. Pull the crown out to the date setting and run through all 31 days 3 times. If this doesn't solve the problem it's time for a service. |

Could it be an even simpler explanation - that the winder isn't making enough turns per day and the watch is simply coming to a stop? You said it happens after sitting on the winder "a few days." Is the TIME correct when you pull it off the winder "after a few days?" If not - 1. check the TPD on your winder. You need at least 650 turns per day. 2. After giving the watch a full wind, note the time, and set it down until it it runs to a stop. It should run about 42 hours before coming to a stop. One thing we know is the WINDER is not causing it to stop. |

Thanks all for your great thoughts and assistance. I'v been away for the last couple of weeks over the Christmas / New Year period, so have not really had a chance to check back in. To confirm, when on the winder, the time is ok, but the date hasn't flipped over. It does need to be on there for 3 or 4 days before I notice an issue. When I give it a simple manual wind, all is well again. Whilst on the wrist, I have never had this issue - in fact, this is the only watch I've worn over the last two weeks and it hasn't missed a beat. It'll beinteresting to see whathappens as I revert back to my 'Work' watches this week & leave the Steelfish on the winder. As such, the suggestion about the winder not providing enough TPD seems to be the most logical here, otherwise if it were a simple mechanical fault with the watch, would I not have the same effect whether on the winder or my wrist? Is it possible that if the power reserve falls (through not being provided enough TPD), the date change over will fail before it starts to noticably loose time? If so, this would suggest why the time is still ok & after a manual wind, all is good again. Maybe I should just ask Breitling!!! |

There is something preventing the date change mechanism from engaging properly. The issue may be connected to power reserve, but I can't really think of a scenario where that would prevent change completely but still allow the watch to maintain accurate time. dan_t wrote: Maybe I should just ask Breitling!!! Well, finally found the time to drop by the Breitling service agents in Syd. Dropped off the Superocean for them to sort it all out I'll update after I get it back. |

Well, I got the watch back today from Breitling. They say they've fixed it, but were unable to tell me exactly what they've fixed. Oh well, let's just hope it's fixed! |
