I was lucky enough to been given a gift of a B01 for my birthday in March 2010. I was in attendance when the watch was purchased.

Since that time the watch has worked efficiently and there have no concerns till recently. The problems have been that the watch would stop fumctioning within 24 hours of non-use, and one particular occasion it managed to gain 2.5 hours after the watch had had the time accurrately set. No issues as such, these issues can arise with a mechanical piece of technical engineering.

What worried me was the reaction of the high street jeweller, no problem with confirming that the warranty was still in effect. But just little comments didn't ring right. Firstly I said that I was going to take the watch directly to Breitling service centre, because I'm lucky enough in this instance to live only 40 miles away. I have spoken to them before and they would be happy for me to visit their location with a prior appointment. He said that Breitling do not accept visitors and that all repair submissions should be put through the agents.
The second query raised was that I was going to ask for the watch to cleaned and polished. I wear my watch every day and of course it has picked up a little scratches here and there. As I was going to lose the use of the watch for 4 or 5 weeks, I thought in for a penny in for a pound.
Again the jeweller dissuaded me from getting this done. He recommended that this process should be done at the 5 year mark.

I suppose what I'm asking for is how can I make sure that the watch has been sent to Breitling as opposed to an experienced technician that might actually solve the problem, but obviously won't cost the jeweller much money under 'my' warranty cover??

Well without knowing where in the world you are, most service centres allow you to send the watch directly to them. I have never heard of any that insistend that warranty work (or any other servicing) be sent in via an AD so I would send it direct. If the AD already has it then I would contact the service centre and have them confirm that the y received it.

In terms of the polish, it's your watch and you should get what you want. I would expect that you would be charged for it as that's not a warranty issue, but it's your right to have it done.

Hi, Seyley. I'm assuming you are 40 miles distant from BUK. I would strongly suggest you follow through with your original plan and take the watch directly to the facility. Here in the states, I am unaware of ANY authorized dealer who would tell you that you must go through an AD for service. The AD will send the watch to BUSA for you as a courtesy, not a requirement. Ring BUK and ask regarding the AD's stated policy. I suspect they will scoff at the premiise.

Thanks for the replies.

I'm in the UK and the Breitling service centre is Maidstone or near there, so I'm fairly lucky. It was always my intention to pay for the extra work to be done with regards to the polishing of the watch and had no issues about the length of time and the cost as I had actually budgeted for that work to be done from the first day of purchase. Just curious about the reaction of the AD. So hopefully I will ring Breitling next week to confirm that they have recieved it.

Just hoping that they have a database based on the name of the client as well as the watch number.

Much better to have the good people of Tunbridge Wells working on it rather than those yobbos in Maidstone :lol:

And I can say that as someone born in a Maidstone hospital!

Laughing, yes Maidstone the pram capital of Europe by a country mile. Have they completed the multistorey pram parking zone yet?
