Post subject:  Help with new Chrono Evolution ?
Hi, I have just a 2005 Breitling Chrono Evolution (13356). After setting the time yesterday, I put the watch on this morning only to find that it had lost over 5 hours overnight !!

I have no idea when the battrey was last changed or if the atch has been serviced at alll since it was bought. Does anybody have any suggestions as to how to check what is going wrong ? Obviously, I don't want to send the watch off for an expensive service if it is not needed.

Well it's not the battery because it doesn't have one!

I doubt that it lost 5 hours, it probably just stopped. Unscrew the crown and then wind the watch fully - 40 turns in position 1 (that the crown goes to when the crown is unscrewed), then leave it and see how long it runs for. If it runs for 42 hours or so then it's fine and the reason that it stopped is just because the power reserve ran out.

Hi, Thanks for your reply.

If I am wearing the watch everyday, is there still a need to wind it ? Does this mean that if I do not wear the watch for a couple of days, I have to reset the time everytime ?

I also own a Seiko Kinetic watch which is great as when I do not wear the watch, it stops itself to save power, and when you move the watch, it winds forward to the correct time !! So, I assume that it must store up power to do this, do any of the Breitlings do a similar sort of thing ?

The Seiko is NOT a fully-automatic or mechanical watch. The Evo is in a completely different league over the Seiko Kinetic.

It is a good idea with an automatic watch to give it a wind from time to time unless you wear it most of the day. ALL automatic watches have a limited power reserve, usually 42 hours. If you leave it sitting dormant longer than the power reserve, it will run to a stop. Buy a winder if it concerns you and you never need worry about it.

Congrats on a terrific watch. You have upped the quality of your collection significantly, so enjoy it. Just don't mention it in the same sentence as the Seiko Kinetic. :wink: :poke:

Also if you do decided to leave it dorment for long periods be aware that you need to be very careful about setting the date between 0001 hrs and 0300hrs. The best way to get round this is moving the hour hand past the 12 position where the date changes then on past the 3 o'clock position each time you need to change the date.

That would be 8pm to 3am, not midnight to 3am.

Possibly if you dont move much through the day, Desk job etc
