Hi there,

I've been a bit unlucky I guess. My brand new Montbrillant Datora had some dail accurate problems on the week and month position. I've had an earlier topic about that here.

So I took it back to my retailer with the papers and box. They told me they only need the warrenty papers, nothing else. I assumed they would have there own ways of transporting watches.

After 2 weeks my watch was finished. At first I was happy with the fast service, but when I saw how they transported it, I was shocked!! They have put it in a little plastic bag, so my bracelet was scratched and my caseback has also little scratches from the bracelet itself. I've been super carefull and they just put it in a plactic bag. This watch was 2 weeks old with no scrathes at all! Also the dail was not fixed at all, just a little bit refitted.

So I was dissapointed and they took it back for the second time at the servicecenter and now after 3,5 weeks I got a mail that it's fixed. I called my retailer and they told me the dail was completely replaced and they polished my bracelet but they didn't polish my caseback because it's engraved. Tomorrow I will go there to see it myself.

Is it true that engraved caseback's can't be polished? And what's your opinion about this situation?

Of course they can polish casebacks, they just tend not to if they can avoid it because of the danger of removing the serial number. They likely thought that it wasn't bad enough to worry about - it's a fact of life that these things will get little scratches just from normal wear, no matter how careful you are.

I agree that scratches are a part of the daily life. But, and that's a big but - any scratches on my watches should be from my own use. Leaving the watch with the AD and service center and then get it back scratched is certainly not ok. If they don't want to take out their own scratches from your engraved caseback, they should compensate you heavily for their damage.

Man, I get upset just writing this post. :)

I can understand that. I would be very unhappy. The thing is that when you get a Breitling watch serviced they send it back in a nice travel case with the watch wrappered around a piece of foam and a polishing cloth over the dial. So there is no possibility of it getting scratched or damaged in transit.

Well, a few weeks later they have been polishing my caseback. Later this year I realised that my serial was almost removed by polishing. That make me furious!

Now, later this year I saw that the date meganism was finished on 23:20. I called the service centre and and they told me that it can be repaired. The tolerance is between 23:50 and 0:10 to finish the date.

They also discovered that the polishing was a failure and now they will give me a brand new caseback that they will order in Switserland. Also they will professionaly polish my whole watch. That's a good service I guess.

I think that my watch was polished at my AD, not the real pros at the service centre.

I'm happy now, but have to wait for a few weeks..
