Post subject: | First post, possible first purchase this week!!!! help! |
Hi I'm new here, I'm from Canada, I'll fill in my profile soon. Ok so I've been a Breitling nut as long as I can remember. A lot of people get hard over Rolex and Tag, but we know better right ![]() Anywho, I've found a near mint Avenger Seawolf for sale about an hour away from where I live. I REALLY wanted the blacksteel super avenger, but beggars can't be choosers I guess. Here is what I know so far about the watch: Breitling Avenger Seawolf blue face pro diver 2 strap the sellar said it's in 90% mint condition, he's sent some photo's and I haven't seen a single scratch, but he says there's some swirls on the buckle from being a desk jockey, and the watch has seen moderate use, being circulated with 2 other watches as well. says the watch was $3660 new. says he has all the papers and box, and is willing to meet at a local AD to have it authenticated says the watch is 2yrs old, can I verify this even if it has a rubber strap? (no date on rubber straps?) I know the asking price, but before I say I just want to know what people here think a fair price for the watch would be. So, are there any things I should look for to determine if it's working properly? Any things to look for on the watch itself or the papers that will give away a fake? And lastly, what are the main differences between the super avenger and the seawolf? I know the seawolf DOESN'T have the 2 push push pieces, extra dials and it has a different movement. is that it? thank you for you input ![]() |

The watch is real. Check that the serial numbers match everywhere - caseback, printed numbers on the warranty and numbers on the top right of the COSC certificate. The watch isn't a chronograph (stop watch) which is hte biggest difference with the Super Avenger and that of course means that the movement is different. The dimensions are also different compare here - http://www.breitlingsource.com/watch_de ... e_181.html and here - http://www.breitlingsource.com/watch_de ... ne_78.html. They are both part of the Aeromarine range so there are design similarities. The date of manufacture is stamped between the 6 o'clock lugs, see here - http://www.breitlingsource.com/articles_dating.shtml, it may be visible with the strap on, definitely with the strap removed. The general advice on pricing is in the FAQs, #2 here - http://www.breitlingsource.com/articles_faq.shtml#8 and you can also check the Buy / Sell / Trade section here for previous sales. In terms of making sure that the watch is working properly, unscrew the crown and make sure that it winds smoothly, advance the date using the quickset through a full month (when the time is not indicating between 8 and 3) to make sure that each date is central in the window, and wind the hands forward to ensure that they move smoothly. Welcome to BreitlingSource. |

Welcome to BreitlingSource. What is the reason for not winding the crown between 8 and 3? I just read about that a few minutes ago but I don't understand why it is bad. I've looked ebay and I saw some bidding numbers but nothing too consistent. This guy is asking $2000 for the watch, is that fair? |

You should not pull it out to the date change position and try to advance the date between 8-2 - it will damage the mechanism. 2 year old Seawolf, mint presumably.....I'd be looking somewhere south of $1800, especially since it doesn't come with a Pro II bracelet. But that means mint on the case, bezel, and crystal. Marks on the clasp are unavoidable. |

I'd hate to find out the hard way in those danger times ahah. also, he told me it was the Pro II Bracelet, if you're saying it's not then which bracelet is it? is it a cheaper bracelet than the Pro II? Could I use this to haggle more loot off him? |

Simply unscrewing the crown allows you to wind it. The first click is for the date change. The second click is to change time. This is standard on most mechanical watches. The strap is the rubber "Diver Pro II." A "Pro II" is the metal bracelet that also can be bought with the watch. So he is probably saying it right - Diver Pro II. |
