Hi Guys,

I'm new here and am looking for some help. Last year, my grandfather passed away and in his will, he left me his Breitling Aerospace Repetition Minutes watch (I could not find the paperwork amongst the piles of stuff in his house). I know nothing about watches, so please bare with me here.

Recently, I decided to get the watch appraised for Insurance purposes. The first jeweler I took it to (Breitling Dealer) looked at it and determined that it was fake. The problem is, when I went to pick it up, the guy who did the review wasn't in and did not leave a note as to what made him believe the watch is a fake...and he won't return my calls. Okay...well, I thought I'd seek a second opinion, just to make sure. So then I took it to another local Breitling dealer and had their guy look at it. He told me it was real and then gave me an appraisal.

So now I'm not sure if it really is real or if it is fake. If it is a fake, what would be some of the taletale signs? I've compared it to pictures of other watches just like it online and I cannot see a difference.

Thanks for any help you may have to offer. Please let me know if I need to supply other information to make it an easier question to answer.

Not sure if it helps or not...but the numbers on the back read like this:

E65062 and then underneath that, it says 9879. Not sure if those are model numbers or what...

The model number E65062 denotes that it is titanium (correct) and houses the Breitling 65 non-chronometer quartz movement (which is also correct for an Aerospace made between 1996 and 2000). In that respect it seems correct, but really we'd need to see some pictures to be sure. Have a look in the gallery section about how to post pictures on here.

Thanks for your follow up. I'll take a few pics tonight and then post them tomorrow. Other than the face of the watch and the backside, is there anything else I should take a picture of?

No, not really - that should be enough, but if you wanted to take one of the bracelet including the clasp, then that's all useful for verification purposes. With a few pics I'm sure we'll be able to give you a pretty good feel as to authenticity.

The first guy is/was probably too embarassed to face you or speak to you on the 'phone.

The fake Aerospace models are SO obvious & I would hope it's genuine.

Posting pics will confirm it and set your mind at rest.

Points to spot or photograph: signed "B" logo on the crown, bezel outer face (between the 11 & 12).

Get the pics on & then hopefully you can carry on and enjoy your watch.

I'm looking at the watch now, there is definitely a signed "B" logo on the bezel between 11 (or 55 on bezel) and 12 (the little dot on bezel).

I'll take pics for confirmation.

The bracelet is titanium band. It has some scratches on the clasp, etc., but I will post pics of that as well. My grandpa lived hard and played hard. I'm surprised the watch is still in operable condition.

That's a testament to the toughness of Breitling watches. (And to your grandad! )

The signed bezel does it for me so you can relax I reckon. Great!

I've never seen a fake (Aerospace) with this level of detail. I wonder what the first guy was thinking of - probably thought of scamming you by saying it's a fake ".............I'll just bin it for you............"

Get the pics on and we'll know for sure.

All the best to you.

Yeah, he was a crazy old man. Flew planes in WW2 for the U.S. and then for Delta and British Airways before retiring. After retirement, he spent his life travelling around and just livin' it up. :)

I have no idea why the first guy thought the way he did and I would love to hear why. Funny that you mention it, they did give me an offer of $ 275 U.S. to "shelve" the watch because apparently there are people out there who will buy fake watches to add to their collection. Not sure how true this is or not, but that's what the lady at the counter told me.

Thanks again and all the best to you as well!!! Chat with you folks tomorrow. Have a pleasant evening!

Jon

You're kidding that an AD said that!??! If the watch is real and he was trying to fleece you, he should be sacked. That's disgraceful.

If that had happened to me, I would be contacting Breitling USA to discuss the conduct of one of their dealers.

FYI, there are not even any half decent Aerospace replicas, never mind good ones. Tell tale signs are the pushers used to start the chronograph and the LCDs are black letters on silver.

This is typical

Post pics so we can be sure.

Well I hope I'm wrong, but I can't help rereading the text of the first post and wondering where the photos are.......
