Hi All,

I am new to this forum. I have just bought a Montbrillant. I have been checking the technical specs for this model on B'Lings web site and it is stated that it comes with mineral instead of the regular sapphire crystal. However when I checked the Chronolog08 catalog which my AD gave to me it states that the MontBrillant comes with cambered sapphire crystal. So is it mineral or sapphire? Can someone help? Thank you.

Thanks Roffensian

Now I can sleep better knowing that its sapphire. I am quite a clumsy person and I do tend to bump my wrist watches around.

Depends on the model.

New ones now come with a sapphire crystal but up until recently they had a mineral crystal.

If you're clumsy better to check - what's the model number? Mine's a A41370 and I'm pretty sure it's mineral glass and it's only a few months old -although I don't know when it was made (stap code dates it at week 25 2007).

I'm not sure when they changed.

Yeah, this is the first year that it's with sapphire. I believe that the change over happened in late 2007.

Roffensian

Do you know if the mineral and sapphire crystals look any different from each other. As I said, I'm pretty sure mine's mineral but wondered if it changed the look of the watch at all.

James - we need those pics!

I'm not aware of any visual differences - sorry.

Breitling Bloke and Roffensian, thanks for your responses. My model number is the same as Breitling Bloke's which is A41370, there is a serial number under it and its 2279556 and as for the strap there is a code engraved on it S2107. Does this mean the strap is dated 21st week of 2007? I really hope what you guys say is correct i.e. that all new B'lings in 2008 comes with sapphire, and hopefully mine was not an OLD stock keep by the AD since early 2007. If not I think I 'll need to change it to another model. I'll need to get a confirmation from my AD on this. I'll keep you guys posted. Thanks.

In the uk at least, I've twice done factory orders for watches which arrive with date codes roughly 3-4 months prior to delivery, therefore I think you could safely assume your watch will have a mineral glass crystal if the date is mid 2007

I purchased my SA earlier this month. Does that mean my watch has mineral glass crystal? Is one stronger than the other?

SA are sapphire, yes, sapphire is less likely to sustain damage.

Well it looks like both our Montys' will be pre sapphire crystal - not a problem for me as I was aware of this and as I said, usually save it for best (ish).

One way to be totally sure about the date of the watch (as opposed to the date of manufacture of the bracelet) is to check for a similar code between the lower lugs, you'll almost certainly need to remove the bracelet to see it tho'.

At least that way you can contact your AD or Breitling direct and give them the date and ask when the change occured.

Better be safe than sorry.

Phew.... finally my AD came back wth the answer.... they checked my Monty's serial number and found that it was in one of the batches manufactured in 2008, so it does come fitted with the cambered sapphire.

So for those who bought a Monty in late 2007 or early 2008, they can check with their respective AD for the info if they want to know if its fitted with mineral or sapphire.

Anyway, lots of people don't really worry too much on whether its sapphire or mineral, cause they do know how to take care of it. I am just a bit clumsy and careless.

you probably have an older bracelet then, that is no problem because it depends on what stock levels are like at the factory!

Enjoy the monty, I love the pink gold hands!
