Post subject: | How to check if waterproof |
I've just bought a second hand Colt Chrono Auto which I am told has just been resealed by local AD (Ernest Jones). I'm off on holiday next week and would love to wear the watch while swimming (well splashing around!). So would Ernest Jones have a note of the work they did (BUK don't) and do they guarantee it - also would it be worth taking it to an AD with an inhouse watchmaker who can check? I know the answer is not to risk it but do I have any other options in such a short space of time? Thanks |

You could take it here which I'm guessing is not too far away. http://www.awporter.co.uk/services.htm Or do what I did and get a G-Shock for the beach/pool! |

Any AD with a watchmaker should be able to pressure test the watch for you. |

Does that come with a charge? |

Just to give anyone else who is interested an update - I ended up in "The Watch Work Shop". This is a small kiosk like outfit in a shopping mall (in Maidenhead, Berkshire UK). They had an air pressure testing machine and within a few minutes were able to confirm the watch as water tight. The bit I liked was, because they were not fitting a battery (its an automatic) they didn't charge me. My local watchmaker on the otherhand quoted £40 to do the test ![]() |
