I'm sick to my stomach!! :(

Dropped my chronomat last night- it fell three feet onto carpeted floor with a thud. The watch hasn't a mark on it anywhere and is keeping time. The chronograph strats, runs, stops, restarts and resets exactly. I will check the date change tonight.

Is it likely I've had a lucky escape?

I suppose I never wondered before but how hardy is a chronomat? Can the watch take a bang?

Thanks guys!

You are probably ok, helped by the fact that it landed on carpet. If all the functions continue to work then I wouldn't worry too much. Try winding the watch manually and ajusting time / date to make sure that the crown stem and keyless works are ok, but otherwise you probably had a lucky escape.

Thanks Roff,

I unwound the crown, wound the watch, adjusted the date around and set it to date previous, set the time making the date change over and all seems ok.

Is your thinking that if it fell on the crown/ pushers they could have been damaged? (because I think it fell near exactly face down)

PS. I think I've been lucky!

Doesn't have to land on them to cause damage, the crown stem in particular is a long piece of metal and if it is slightly bent then you have problems.

Thanks for your help. 8)

As a side note, when winding the watch via the crown is it normal for there to be slightly more resistance when the watch is already fully wound, than when for example the watch has stopped? Not sure if i am just imagining this..

Technically there will be more resistance as the spring is fully wound, but I can't practically feel the difference on many of my watches.

About a year ago I was looking at a Defy Chrono eye level and somehow I just dropped it - almost 6 feet to the floor with the AD on the other side of the counter watching. As I looked up the first words out of my AD's mouth were, "I didn't see a thing." But my haert stopped and it wasn't even mine (though with the wrong AD rep it might have become mine!).

If all your functions work, you're fine.

So you're saying don't buy a zentih from you ad?

A couple weeks ago some little, I'll just say kid, on my son's t-ball team swung his bat and hit my PO right on the crystal. Scared the crap out of me but I haven't had any problems with it and no scratches. These things are pretty tough but I guess it's always better to err on the side of caution.

It can happen to any one. As the guys say it sounds like you were luckly. A fall of three feet onto a carpet, and hopefully a high pile one, was probably a low impact one. Monitor it over the next few days and see if you have any issues. If you do and hopefuly you dont, I advise getting it repaired/checked as soon as. Any delay in doing so could end up costing you more. Fingers crossed thats not the case.

Thanks for your responses!

It all seems to be ok- gained 4 seconds in 24hrs, ran chronograph for couple of hours and it works and resets 100%, date change is fine

I think I was lucky!

Thank you God :D

That sucks! I know how you feel, I was in the shower last week and I hear my 2 year old son come in the bathroom. I peak around the shower curtain to see what he's up to and he's got my steefish around his arm. Before I can get out the words don't drop it, bang down on the tile floor it goes.

Luckily it seems to be OK.

I know how you feel, it seems that I cannot put my watch far enough back on the dresser to avoid my 2 year old daughter from grabbing it and running up to me screaming "Daddy's watch! Here you go Daddy!!" I am happy for the delivery, but she scares the hell out of me every time she touches it.
