Hi,

Owner of a Jupiter Pilot since 1998. It has languished (through no fault of my own! ) in storage for the past 5 years.

When I opened it up a few days ago it had (as suspected) stopped working.
It sits in its original box, with all documents and even its original receipt…

My question is: Is there a worthwhile ROI in it for me if I do get it serviced (at Breitling's recommended agents) at £290 + parts? Or do I bid a fond farewell and let it quietly moulder in its box for ever?

Well, a Jupiter Pilot in good working condition with all the boxes and papers is definitely going to be worth more than £290, so from a purely financial perspective it's a no-brainer (provided any parts you need are not hugely expensive of course).

That said, often whether or not to restore a watch ultimately comes down to something more than just the pure numbers. If the watch means something to you personally then I'd say get it done irrespective of the cost, but in this case you won't be down on the deal if you came to sell it once it was serviced anyway.

After 5 years it definitely needs a service but just a new battery may get the watch running again.

That would be great, if it were only a battery. But, yes, 5 years is long overdue.
