Post subject:  Chronograph service problem

Hi all. I have a Breitling Colt Chrono, manufactured in the late 90's. The chronograph minute hand advances about two seconds prematurely. I had a complete service at Feldmar nearly two years ago, and they didn't correct it. Now they are telling me that to correct it would necessitate a complete overhaul (around $500). Anyone else had a similar problem with their chronograph? I think it uses the same movement as the Chronomat.

Do you mean that the chrono seconds jumps when you start the chrono?

That is a known issue with the movement and can be adjusted out, but it will be a full service. Unfortunately the warranty on your original service has now run out, and that would have covered it.

Yes, the minute jumps ahead when the second hand is at about 58 seconds. It's also gaining about a minute a day. I had hoped it would settle in after a while, and then I lost track of how long it had been since the service so it's out of warranty. I'm just a bit frustrated that they didn't catch either of those things when I had the work done. I live in Utah, so there aren't any authorized service centers nearby, and sending it back with insurance is around $15-$20 each way. Still, that's less than $500+ to have the overhaul done again.... Live and learn I guess.

Thanks for your input
Rick

That's not what I meant, and that's a different issue, but still requires Breitling attenion. The time keeping is also an indication that something else is wrong, so definitely needs servicing.
