I got my Chrono SuperOcean from Govergs in early January this year. Because George set it before he sent it, I haven’t had to adjust the date until yesterday. Around 10:00 in the morning yesterday, I set the date forward from 29 to 1 using the quick set, then just for the heck of it, ran the days through one week with the quick set. (Although I didn’t run the hands forward, it wasn’t in the danger zone, since the watch hasn’t stopped since I got it. Also, as a confirmation, the date didn’t change at noon when the watch was at 12:00.) All went fine, until I put my watch on this morning and the day was stuck between Tuesday and Wednesday. The date was fine. This time, I ran the hands forward, just in case the watch stopped overnight. It hadn’t - the hands ran past 12:00 and nothing changed. Running the hands twelve hours ahead, the day popped to Thursday, perfectly centered. I ran the hands ahead for a week’s worth of time, and each time the day and date changed at just the right time and were perfectly centered. I reset it to Wednesday, reset the date, and as of now it looks fine.

Obviously this is something to keep an eye on, but any idea what could have happened? If it happens again, is BUSA going to give me grief, thinking I screwed it up by adjusting it in the danger zone? How big a repair might I be looking at?

Thanks in advance.

If it is now fine then it is likely just a slip of the gears, odd, but not a problem. If it happens again then obviously something is wrong. Breitling rarely deny warranty work for people who have used the quickset date in the danger zone so you won't have any problems - those things tend to be obvious as there are signs of force on the bent or broken teeth.

The fix will be a day wheel which is simple and straightforward, but the watch will required a basic service at the same time.

It was a bit disquieting, yes. My first thought was people (i.e., BUSA) would think I tried to do the quick set in the danger zone, which I was careful not to do. My second thought was even if the warranty covered it, I didn't want to have go without it during the repair period. So hopefully it is just a one-off. Time will tell.

The day changed over just fine last night; so far so good. Assuming it does fine in the ensuing nights, the test will be to see how it does switching to Wednesday next week, since that's where it had a problem before.

I don't understand the mechanics or physics involved, but I know from any day/date I've had that it can be be a bit touchy simply usinge quick date for the day. Not always, just sometime. If I msitakenly change the day while trying to change the date, I set the day back to the day before, the date to the date before and advance the hands. Probably don't need to - just habit. Off the top of my head that includes SOC, Bentley GT, and a couple IWC.

Bottom line - you're fine with the SOC!!

Good advice, Tom. I'll remember that if it happens again.
