Post subject:  BEZEL HELP PLEASE
I removed the bezel to brush finish my Breitling Cockpit, everything seems to have went well, but I just can't seem to get the bezel back on correctly.
When I refit the screws on the outer bezel ring, they either have no grip and the bezel will no stay on, or it's so tight that the bezel will no budge.

The spring seems fine and looks to be fitted correctly, seated along the groove where the screws are on the inside, any help you can offer would be great.

There's two pieces of metal under the bezel - the wire that sits in the groove where the screws poke through, and a springy piece of metal that sits under the bezel and provides the racheting action. Are they both seated correctly? The springy piece of metal sits in two small holes at the 12 position on the case (or at least it does on a Steelfish which was the last one I removed the bezel on). When you put the bezel on top of the springy metal, you'll have to push it down slightly against the spring resistance when you tighten the screws. That's all I can think of at the moment. Hope you get it sorted.

Thanks for the help, but the cockpit bezel must have a slighty different design, and I still can't get it right. :oops:

I've not taken a Cockpit's bezel off, but it's still a uni-directional bezel so I'd be very surprised if it was any different in terms of design. All I can suggest is that you post us up a couple of pictures of all the parts you have. Otherwise it's going to be a trip to an AD to put it back on.

I've taken the bezel off my Cockpit and it is the same construction that D8 has described. I think the important thing that he mentioned was to push down on the bezel to make sure the screws will actually keep the bezel in place. I'd take pictures of everything you have and post them and we'll be able to tell you how to peice it back together.

when you get it put back together can you send a pic of the finish i have a crono cockpit and would really like to see what it would look like brushed. lord knows that how OCD i am with the polish on this thing give it a couple years and i will end up polishing it to nothing.

By coincidence, I’ve had exactly the same issue with my Titanium Seawolf at the weekend when I had the bezel off, also doing some refinishing work. I think this is the third time I’ve had that bezel off.

When I found the bezel was so still I removed the bezel again it all seamed OK on a first look, but a close examination showed the locating tang on the click spring was not properly engaging with the hole in the case. This very slightly distorted the tang on the click spring and in trying to get the tang back to the correct shape the obvious happened. The tang broke off. :?

I’m now trying to get a new click spring from BUK.
