Post subject:  Help: Authorized vs. Non Authorized Dealers

I did try searching but did not have much luck. I even tried a quick google search. Seems like the only difference is that an authorized dealers offer a 2 year warranty that non authorized dealers do not offer. In March I plan on buying my first timepiece and it is going to be the black Superocean Heritage Chrono with the mesh bracelet or MAYBE the Transocean (if it is even available). I am not going to buy it online but I was wondering the differences vs authorized and non authorized dealers. I am assuming if the watch comes with all the paperwork it is legit??? Any help will be greatly appreciated!!!

Well there are hundreds of topics on the subject already, but.....

With an AD you get a new piece with a Breitling warranty, with grey market you get a piece that was sold by an AD to a 3rd party. Generally that means......

1) It may be new or it may be a customer return / refurb
2) It has no factory warranty (grey market warranty is only any good for replacement, not repair as they can't access Breitling parts)
3) It may or may not have an intact serial number (and if it doesn't then Breitling won't touch it)
4) It may be delivered as described, it may not
5) It may take a long time to get to you because grey market frequently sells watches that they don't have
6) It will likely be missing at least the warranty from the paperwork

Oh yeah, and the price is unlikely to be better than you can negotiate from an AD.

Thank you for the response!

For something like this I would not mind paying a little more to make sure that it is 100% authentic and new etc....

Depending on where you are you should easily be able to get 20 - 25% discount - literally hundreds of threads here on the topic.

I usually ask many different questions in my threads to help learn more. When I tried seraching authorized vs non authorized dealer in "topic subjects only" not very much came up.

If you live in the UK contact Andrew Michaels or Banks & Lyon, apparently members on here have gotten good deals from them. If you're in the US PM JNelson or FEAR for the contact info for Govberg or Provident. All AD's and should be able to get you a price comparable to any of the Gray Market sites. The way I see it there's really no advantage of buying from a Gray Market site unless you're trying to get something that is discontinued that a Gray Market site may have, even then it's a crap shoot if they'll actually be able to get it. The only way I'd ever buy a high end watch from anywhere other than an AD is if I were buying pre-owned, which is what I did, and even then I'd prefer to buy one that was originally purchased from an AD.

Jnelson already sent me a PM and I am talking to Govberg so we will see what happens :lingsrock:
