Post subject: | Help with a Mark VI Comp 19 |
Hi all, After looking for a long time, I finally got my first Breitling on Friday (Mark VI Comp 19)! Unfortunately, after I ordered the watch, I got a call that the box was damaged and they could either go ahead and send the watch now (then order and ship a new box), or I could wait until the new box arrived and get everything together. Of course, I could not wait for the watch so I asked that they go ahead and ship the watch. So, I have my watch and it is awesome but I do not have the owners manual so I am not sure how to have it set. Anyone with the same watch that could give me a quick lesson? I have the time set but nothing else. Also, when I received the watch, it did have some minor marks on the clasp. At first, I thought the marks were from the sticky plastic covering that it was shipped in but after trying to rub it away, I'm pretty sure it is scratched. Since I purchased the watch new, is this something that is a valid complaint or am I being too picky? Thanks in advance for any help. John |

The date / month / day / moonphase are set with the buttons on the side. Easiest thing to do is just press them and you'll soon figure out which is which. Just a couple of points: 1) Do it outside of the 8pm - 3am window 2) Set the date / day to the day before and then use the time set to advance it forward - that way you can be sure to get am / pm correct 3) The moonphase wheel has 59 settings on the wheel - two 29 1/2 day cycles, so if one setting is slightly off then advancing by 29 (or 30) will give you a 1/2 day adjusting. The easiest way to set it is to find the last full or new moon and then count days from there. In terms of the clasp, I would definitely mention it to the AD - they can likely polish it out quickly. |

Thanks Roff! One more question. The watch came with a 996A bracelet. I have seen photos of the same watch with a 973A bracelet. They look similar but mine has Breitling on the clasp instead of the flying B logo. Is this OK or was it likely switched out? I did not buy from an AD. I contacted many but nobody had one in stock. I ended up buying from Ashford.com. Thanks again |

Either bracelet is OK. If you bought grey market then you are likely stuck with the clasp. |

I finally got the Breitling box in from Ashford and it had the tool I needed to set the watch. Thanks for the tips, it was actually pretty easy to do. The box was in good shape. It did come with most of the paperwork but I did not get a slide rule, bezel protector or travel pouch and it did not have the leather holder that the watch sits on in the box. Would all these items come with a watch purchased from an AD? I also noticed in the Mark VI description that the bezel is bidirectional. However, my bezel does not move. Is this OK? Please excuse my ignorance on this if it is a silly question, I just want to make sure everything is legit. Thanks in advance, John |

Watch doesn't have a sliderule so you wouldn't get one of those, have never seen a bezel protector for one of these either. The box should include the bakelite with the leather one inside that has the cushion for the watch. The bezel does not rotate. |

The Mark VI has a fixed bezel - it does not rotate. Ashford must have described it wrong. Notice there are no slide rule type markings on the dial, so a slide rule rotating bezel wouldn't make sense. By the travel pouch, if you are referring to the zippered case, that does not come with a new watch - it is how BUSA returns a serviced watch. The inner case should be there. Insist on it. It is very handy for travel among other things. |

Roff and Shark, Appreciate it guys. I will call and see if I can get Ashford to send the inner case. I got the bidrectional bezel thought from the Breitling models page on this site. Thanks again, John |

it says "fixed." Maybe you were looking at another Bentley model which does have the bidirectional bezel. Bottom line - enjoy the watch. AD was bating me with the awesome blue dial Mark VI yesterday, throwing out numbers like 7 even. Tried it on and it's a very fine looking piece. Took my chocolates and calendar and bolted. Hey! Progress. ![]() |

sharkman wrote: it says "fixed." Maybe you were looking at another Bentley model which does have the bidirectional bezel. No it doesn't - he has a Complications 19 Tom, and that says bi-directional, hence why I said I PM'd admin to let him know that it needs correcting. |

See what my AD did to my mind yesterday with that Mark VI offer? I can't even read correctly today. ![]() |

Shark, This is my first real watch. I have had a Tag Link Chrono for the last 6 years which has been a great watch but I have been drooling for my first Ling for some time. With the deals that are out there for the Mark VI, I could not wait any longer. I think the Mark VI is the perfect combination of dress and everyday. Plus I have smaller wrist so it actually fits me well. It's never easy to drop big money on a watch (at least in my income brakcet) but I can't stop looking at it. No regrets! John |

I just got my Mark VI Complications 19 from a AD, but it came in the leather case in a Breitling in a Breitling for Bentley rivited box with all the paperwork. No Bakelite? Stockmaster |
