Post subject:  sapphire crysal scratches

Hi,

The center of my model a13350 blackbird's sapphire crystal has a bunch of tiny scratches right in the middle of it. I'm thinking the previous owner may have spun the watch on the glass or something. In any case, despite being subtle it irritates me! Is there any way to replace the glass? Anyone know how much that would cost?

Thx

I doubt that the crystal is scratched - it pretty much takes a diamond to do that. It's more likely that the AR is scratched and your only options are either to replace the entire crystal at a cost of $200 - $300 through Breitling, remove the AR coating completely from the outside (the inside will still have the AR) using a product like Polywatch or live with it.

It is possible to scratch the crystal especially when u hit on some rocks, stone, concrete,... they are make up of many forms of crystals which can cause a deep scratches. That's what happen to my Navi World. The price to change...600SGD(Singapore dollars) which is ard 460USD. Ouch...

It is very common that people think that a saphire crystal can be scratched, but there's a big difference between a scratch and a micro-fracture. Saphire crystals can only be scratched with a diamond or another saphire, if u see a scratch it's the AR coating like Roff said or a micro-fracture.
