Post subject:  Service for a Superocean

I just received my quote back from Breitling to fix my 2009 Superocean. The cost of the total repair for all required work is $900. Im having a hard time deciding if Its worth getting repaired because thats about 1/3rd the cost of the watch. I understand that If I dont get this work done then the watch is useless, but I could always apply that extra 900 towards another new watch :) what do you guys think? The retail is $2845, they dont make this one any more I paid 2500 for it and just the though of putting 900 into that means Im paying $3400 for that watch haha. Im not really sure if its worth it...any suggestions would help!

Thanks!

Holy cow - what did you manage to do to a watch that should still be under warranty to get a $900 bill???

The bottom line is that if you sell the watch now with a $900 bill hanging over it then you will get very little for it. The general advice is that you don't recover service costs when selling, but this is clearly a 'repair' so I think that if you want to get out of the watch then you need to pay up and then sell.

Was there something wrong with it ? holy cow, my superocean needs a full service too works perfect but if the bill is around $900 i think i will keep using it ... $900 sounds super high ... Is this typical for a full service ? do u wear it all the time , in water ocean ... ????

Regular service (after 5 - 7 years) should be $350 or so for a non chrono and $450 or so for a chrono. Regional pricing is available on the Breitling website.

I own an chronomat which is my every day watch and the superocean was my "sporty watch" I would wear it in the ocean, pools..etc and was never afraid to dammage it. With that being said I owned that watch for less than two years. I had the crown unscrewed (was adjusting the date) and dropped it on pavement which was enough force to mess up the crown and scratch it up a bit. Breitling USA said that this watch is not a modular construction like the chronomat "helps keep the price point down" and that I need a new mid case, along with a new crown, new bezel, new hands and they also want to preform a full service on it. I feel this is BS because the hands were fine, the bezel was not that bad...I can deal with a mid-case but the watch ran fine I dont understand why it would need a full service (i guess the shock from the drop), but at the end of the day it is what it is with Breitling. I guess its all or nothing, im leaning towards not gettting the repair done because I would rather just spend the extra 900 towards a new watch. This whole experience has put a sour taste in my mouth...$500 no problem I would have done it but 900 is pushing it a bit for a 2845 watch witch can be purchased new for 2500 no problem.

anyone wanna buy a broken superocean? hahah j/k

They are telling you the truth about the construction differences between the Windrider and Aeromarine range.

I don't think that the full service is unreasonable - the watch has been in a high impact and now needs to be removed from the case and put into a new one. There could be any number of problems wrong with it that wouldn't show up without servicing - bent arbors, broken jewels, scratched pivots, etc, etc, etc. Hands are single use and have to be replaced when the service is done.

After speaking with Breitling USA today they took the time to explain everything in full detial on as to why each thing needed to be done. I must say that I am very pleased with their after sales service, It really is a great company and they do stand behind their products. With that being said I am going to complete the repair and will continue to buy more and more breitlings in the future :) this time i wont be as hard on them haha

It's like owning a Rolls, every time the ashtrays are full you have two choices, either clean them or just buy a new one
