Hey guys, Just bought my first breitling, paid around $500 usd for a used Colt Quartz. I was told the watch had normal use wear but worked fine. Upon receipt of the watch, I noticed the second hand was jumping couple seconds at a time, and the watch would periododically stop working then start again, Theres no A/R Coating, and the lumination on the Minute hand has flaked off. I contacted the seller about the issues, but in the mean time Im trying to figure out my best option in case i cant get a refund.

1. Send it to BUSA for an overhaul. i think it would cost around $300? would this include any replacing parts like the hands? Considering I paid $500 for it, $800 or so wouldnt be too bad for a fully serviced colt ?

2. Try to resell it being honest about the issues it has, and cut my losses.

Hi Rons (welcome),

Which model is it please? Pic would be good enough.
With Q models I think the sweep hand jumping generally indicates it's battery time (but as I say I do not know which year model we are talking).

Some folk do not like AR (dont know why but they remove it/each to thier own) I do not know US prices but I think an overhaul might be more than $300. But even then model dependant sounds like a good buy.

Welcome to the club.

$300 or so will be right for non chrono service - $450 if it's chrono. As Alan says the 2 second jumping is evidence of a failing battery, which also explains the intermittent stopping. The hands will be replaced during servicing, but are generally priced on top of the service costs (no idea why as they have to be replaced).

A/R cannot be replaced, Breitling will have to replace the entire crystal if you want that addressed and that will likely be another $200 or so.

You got a good deal on the Colt, when you sell it it will be part funding the GMT. It's sort of the way I paid for my 'keepers'.
