Dear all, i bought my SO a month ago. I attempted to set the watch myself. The crown was pulled out when the second hand pointed to 60 and I turned the minute hand to a proper minute. But the minute hand slightly moved ( around 3/4 minute distance) the moment i pressed the stopper back. Therefore, it is hard for me to accurately set the time everytime. Then i called the AD and they said i might slightly turn the crown when i pulled the stopper back. But i told them that i was sure that i pulled the stopper carefully without slightly turning the stopper carelessly. Is there something wrong with my watch? Or does this situation happen to all watches even they are expensive ones? Please give me a hand!!!! |

All gear train systems have some slack in them, a watch is no different, the best way to set it accurately is to wind the watch back say 15 mins and advance the min hand to the exact min you want without going past it, then the slack will be infront of the hand so to speak....ie, the minute hand should line up exactly with the min marker when the second hand hits 12. works for me! ps, if you advance the hand to far and have to wind it back a few mm, you would be better to start the setting process again. hope that is clear ....on reading it back it sounds like what I mean!

thank for your help! doctor diesel Do you mean that i have to wind the minute hand back say 15 mins and advance the min hand to the exact min i want so that the slack in gear system is minimized? If yes, how can i overcome the problem that the min hand will slight shake/move slightly (4/5 min distance) the moment the crown is pressed back after ajusting the time? Do i need to spare couples seconds to compensate for the distance? thank for your help again. p.s. is BlackBird a good watch? |

it shouldn't move when the crown is pushed in, try pushing in to the first click , date setting, then the second click if it moves significantly, there is something amiss...? cannon pinion slack......need to ask someone who knows about watchmaking then Blackbird is a really nice watch indeed |
