Post subject:  Having my second-hand Steelfish serviced by BUK

I've got a Steelfish that I bought second-hand about a year ago. Really love it and want to get it serviced now.

However, I don't have any paperwork or box and know pretty much nothing of its history. Also, being a second (third?) owner, obviously the watch isn't registered in my name, if at all.

If I want to get the watch serviced by Breitling in the UK, is this going to cause me a problem? ie, do Breitling require proof of purchase, paperwork, registration docs or anything like that in order to service it?

In a worst case scenario, am I going to send it in only to find out that it was stolen in a past life and gets confiscated as a result? (Previous owner seemed genuine enough and had a good sales rep, but still...)

I never really considered this when I bought it. I was buying for keeps so wasn't worried about lack of paperwork/box as it meant I could negotiate a better price. I'm confident it's genuine as I had the watch authenticated by a watch shop in lieu of docs prior to the purchase, and it has also been subsequently checked out by some of you experts on here.

It has the serial number on it, so is there some way I can get its 'status' checked out with Breitling? Or am I just being overly paranoid?

Just call Breitling in Tunbridge Wells and ask if they have any history of your watch {quoting the serial number}.They are very helpfull and dont require any paperwork for a overhaul, and your watch comes back like new.Just had my Navi done and :lingsrock: they told me the previos service histiry aswell, its virtually a new watch. :lingsrock:

Provided a watch is genuine (obviously!) and has the serial number intact on the caseback (and provided it's not stolen of course!), then Breitling will definitely service it for you as Alinfrance said. They only require proof of purchase if you are asking for a warranty job to be done. In that instance they usually only need the completed warranty booklet, but if they believe the wacth may have been sold with open papers they may also ask for proof of purchase - such as the till receipt - to back it up. But in your case as it's not a warranty job, they won't need any paperwork.

Thanks for your help guys. I'll give them a ring to check out the history.

I think given the general w&t on the watch I'll definitely be getting my money's worth out of the service - just a shame it takes so long!
