Post subject:  Correct TPD for my Watch Winder?

I have this watch winder

http://www.brookstone.com/watch-winders ... DT|7841793.

Which for the price I paid $199 USD has turned out to be awesome! I even bought multiple gifts cards off ebay for brookstone so actually ended up paying about $150. I know Im cheap but winders are money pits IMO.

My question if this. Which settings are corrected/which ones can I choose to wind my watches just enough to keep them running. I have an SA and a Tissot Le Locle: This One:

http://shopping.rediff.com/shop//produc ... ccessories

Here are the setting choices for the winder. Each watch mount can be set seperately. Each one can also wind clockwise, counter clockwise or bidirectional.

1) 650 TPD with 133 sec interval
2) 785 TPD with 110 sec interval
3) 950 TPD with 91 sec interval
4) 1150 TDP with 75 sec intervals
5) 1440 tpd with 60 sec intervals
6) 1570 tpd with 55 second interval
7) 1728 tpd with 50 second intervals
8) 1838 tpd with 47 second intervals
9) 1920 tpd with 45 second intervals
10) 2107 tpd with 41 sec intervals
11) 2335 tpd with 37 second intervals
12) 2618 tpd with 33 second intervals
13) 2787 tpd with 31 second intervals
14) 2880 tpd with 30 sec intervals
15) 3600 tpd with 24 second intervals

TPDs allow + or - 3% varience.

I can also move switches to have remain in constant motion which I will do sometimes for like an hour to let my watches wind up then shut it off If I am leaving for a week's time.

Thanks for your help guys!

Having not answered this question for a few weeks I was kinda missing it.

SA is clockwise only (that hasn't changed since the last time the question was asked). As per previous threads and the Orbita database it needs 800 tpd.

Per the Orbita database - http://www.orbita.net/NEW/Database-T.htm the Tissot has an ETA 2824-2 which needs 650 tpd and winds in both directions.

So therefore SA needs #3 clockwise and Tissot needs #1, it won't matter whether you set anti-clockwise, clockwise, or both.

How about number 6 or 7 set on a timer. 12hrs on (day) 12hrs off (night). Probably just me but I think that would be ideal as you will get the required TPD for both and have a large rest period. I also feel it best replicates how it was designed to be wound. I.E. active in the day and resting obviously when the wearer would be sleeping. No expert by any means and I stand to be correct if wrong  !!

It also may increase the life of the winder motors - not turning on and off all day. Man that's a lot of possibilities for a $200 Brookstone winder. Does it show time linked to atomic clock??? :poke:

That makes some sense for extended periods, what would concern me would be if the watch was worn regularly as well - if it's on the winder during the active 12 hours and then worn for some / most of the other 12 then that's a lot of activity on a fully wound mainspring.

No clock lol! It really is a lot of choices for $200. Great buy IMHO. I have thought of getting a second one to stash away just in case something goes wrong while Brookstone still makes them.

The Tissot is worn very little. Maybe once a month at most. The SA will be worn for a few weeks straight then not worn for a week or so..Then a few days straight etc...That help?

Thoughts been that when you pick up the watch it would have had its rest period and wearing it would wind it again. Obviously your timer would be set to suit. Also this probably really only suits people like me that only ware there watches at weekends.

Mine actually has a fridge and automatic cat box underneath, beat that  , unfortunately my dog killed my cat :(

I really think I need to get a winder though, I just hate the idea of spending $200 or more on a box with a motor. Maybe I should just tie the watch to my dog.

Hell I thought $200 was nothing for a quad winder. The quality if very good. Independent motors. All black finish like I wanted with glass lid. No IMO tacky gold accents. Very modern looking which I love. Nice overall design. They have a double and single also. Just get one of those and only wind the ones you want to stay wound on it.

I have the double watch winder from Brookstone...I think I paid around $150. It works great and is quiet. I am not a big fan of paying a lot of money for winders, and think that the quality is very good for the money on this one.

Ya I was going to just buy the double but I already have tow auto's and a third coming soon I hope (next month or 2) so I figured I would already be full if I only got the double. The quad has just caused me to want to fill it though. O well! LOL

Completely understand...I am going to have to upgrade to the quad soon as well with the pace I am currently on.
