Post subject:  Aerospace clasp loose...normal?

I have a new 2009 Breitling Aerospace with the titanium bracelet. The clasp mechanism is very easy to open and close. Sometimes it will catch on a jacket and pull open the 2nd clasp. It has never popped open on it's own and isn't loose in any way, but my older Breitling and my Tag require a significantly greater amount of force to open. I don't need to use my fingernail to pop open the 2nd clasp and can simply use one finger swipe on the side to open it.

Is this how the titanium bracelets are? Is this how newer Breitling bracelets are? Should I send it back for replacement?

Thanks!

It sounds like it is a bit loose. I guess its all personal preference. I would open the safety clasp (2nd clasp) and just squeeze the sides in a bit then try it. Dont squeeze too hard though as titanium cant bend easily I think.

Thanks. That did the trick. I actually squeezed really hard and it has tightened it up a little. Still not super tight, but much better.

I'm surprised how loose it is already considering this was a brand new watch / strap, and I haven't worn it that much.

Thanks again!

Ya it happens. Something could have loosened it too like catching it on something and not realizing it. I try and be really careful with my safety clasp because I dont want it to get mis-shaped etc. Enjoy your watch!

Hi, my first post & thanks for a very helpful, informative & well put together forum. Unfortunately I’m adding to this thread on a negative note.

I have just been given an Aerospace with the titanium professional 2 bracelet and the clasp was so slack that the slightest brush would open the bracelet and only the safety clasp would stop it from fully opening.

The bracelet closure mechanism is made up of 4 Parts, a small safety clasp, a larger cover containing the micro adjuster which lies over the links, a single “T” bar and a cut out twin bar into which the “T” bar sits when closed.

The most obvious problem was that the end of the large closure cover, which sits over the links, would sit with a gap between the links and the cover and any contact with it would cause the “T” bar to open leaving only the small safety clasp to stop the bracelet from completely opening.

I have lightly nipped the sides of this so there is now friction between it and the links so that it will not catch on my clothing and therefore will not accidentally flip open the clasp.

Following advice from other threads (although I think they related to steel bracelets) I have slightly bent the “T” bar which now gives a little friction but it is nothing like as firm as I would like. I am very reluctant to use any more pressure (I’ve had to use pliers) on the solid bar in case I damage it.

As I’ve nothing to compare with I can’t be sure how firmly the “T” bar should sit in the cut out it. It now needs a deliberate amount of pressure from my finger nail at the safety clasp end before it opens but almost no pressure at the cover end, which is where I believe the clasp is designed to be opened from.

I’d appreciate some advice on how firm the clasp should feel, all-be-it that is probably hard to put into words, as I am not really confident that the bracelet won’t open accidentally if I am wearing my watch when I am e.g. fishing.

I do engage in a number of outdoor hobbies and am not really confident that the bracelet won’t open accidentally. The watch was a gift & the AD who supplied it is from the other side of the UK so I can’t really take it back there, but I am disappointed that a bracelet that retails in the UK in excess of £600 needs to have a pair of pliers taken to it before I would dare to wear it outside.
