Hello everyone. My dad received a new Breitling chronometre super ocean last november for his retirement from his employer. The watch came with box only and has no owners manual or papers. The watch is brand new and has never been worn. I took it to a local jewelry mart and I wanted to see how much it was worth. They offered me $1600. She said that's the best she can do because of no papers.

My question is this a fair offer? Should I keep the watch and try to get papers for it, (if possible)? Should I try a Breitling distributor? I'm in the Chicago area and this was the only person who seen the watch and quoted me a price. Any other good places I can take the watch to have appraised? Thank you for any help.

That is a very good price. The watch lists at under $3,000 so can be had new from an AD for $2,100 - $2,200.

No other dealer will offer more, and most will offer you a lot less. If you want to sell then the best price will be from a site like this, WatchUSeek or TimeZone, plus of course eBay, but don't expect much more than the price that you were offered.

Roff, I think you have your SOs mixed up. The regular SO lists for under $3K but this is the Chrono Superocean. The list for that on the bracelet is actually $4200 or so.

Buying from an AD new, you can expect 20-25% off this model so used without papers, I would put the price a little higher than what you were offered, as long as you can prove it's authentic.

You're right - my bad, apologies.

Price should be closer to $2,000, but given that the dealer has to make money it's still not awful.

I think if you could work 1750 that would be great IMO. Honestly as a jewlers I would never buy a watch with out papers but thats just my personality.
