I would never use washing up liquid when washing the car, so using that rule of thumb, I'm not sure what cleaning agent I can use for B01 silver and gold watch strap? This exercise is purely to remove the everyday grime that will acummulate from general daily usage. I suppose to finish off the question, what cloth do people use that brings out a good shine and is not known for adding any scratches, not sure if micro fibre cloths are a good material unless someone can suggest a good grade to look out for.... Any suggestions gratefully received. Seymour |

There's a load of threads on here about cleaning and polishing cloths - search function is top right of the page. But in general, provided your watch has reasonable water resistance, then mild hand soap, luke-warm water and a very soft toothbrush are absolute fine for cleaning your watch. Rinse it off will lots of fresh water to get rid of any soap residue, dry it, and that's it. For polishing Cape Cod polishing cloths are your best bet (loads of threads on those here too), or if you want something even more gentle (and without the vanilla smell) then you could try Sunshine Cloths - again loads of threads on those here too. Cape Cods and Sunshines are available pretty cheaply on eBay. |

For everyday cleaning, I use eyeglass cleaner from Alcon along with a good-quality microfiber cloth. I prefer to use cloths from optical dispensaries or camera stores, such as Crizal, Hoya, and Pentax. Both the yellow and white Breitling cloths are excellent as well. About once a month, I use http://www.caribbeangem.com, which really brings the shine back. At first, I wasn't sure about it being safe around gaskets, but I've been doing this for a few years and haven't had a problem. |
