Hello from Australia.

Breitling Newbie here, I have been accessing this site for a few months and have been impressed with the detail in the posts so thanks for the education, hope to keep learning.

I am looking at purchasing a Navitimer with Stainless steel bracelet in the next 2 months.
Has anyone had any experiences purchasing one duty free?. I'm going Sydney to Auckland to Santiago Chile soon so wondering if there is any benefit in purchasing duty free?.
Or am I better off going to a registered dealer in Aus and trying to do some bargaining?

Thanks for your time

Further to last post:

Ended up purchasing a SA from authorised dealer. They made me an offer I couldn't refuse.
Navitimer didn't work so well on my wrist so went with the SA. Very happy with the way it looks.

Welcome and congrats on the new purchase!

If you travel overseas within 30 days of buying it, you can claim a refund of the 10% GST (so you get back one-eleventh of what you paid). Here's a link to info on the Tourist Refund Scheme:
http://www.customs.gov.au/site/page4646.asp

Unless it has moved again, the TRS office at Sydney airport is down a short passageway on the right, after you have gone through customs, security, and then through the main duty free store. It seems to move often, and it's not always in the place indicated on the customs website. Keep an eye out for the sign.

You need to take the watch with you (they will ask to see it, having it on your wrist is fine) and the receipt from the AD. They stamp the receipt and then process the refund by crediting it to a bank account or credit card, usually it takes about 5 days to appear in your account.

If you bring the watch back into Australia with you when you return, technically you're supposed to declare it and pay them back the GST. Suffice to say I don't think anyone does that. Not that I am encouraging anything of the sort, of course. If the customs officers feel like having some fun with you, they might even ask (while winking at you) whether you are going to be bringing it back.

If you bought the watch more than 30 days before departing, you might be able to talk the dealer into issuing a new receipt with a later date. Not that I know anything about that either, of course.

Hope this helps.

Because I am from Melbourne, I can tell you that dealing with George is fantastic. I bought my Chronomat B01 from George. It arrived, Brand spanking new, with all the paperwork and presentation, you can make any decision you like on how to buy your Breitling, but I wouldnt hesitate to recommend George from Govberg. When I buy my next watch, Ill be buying it from George anyway leave a message for Justin Nelson in here, he will help you with the details for George but as I said its up to you how you buy your watch. Of course this course will see GST added and you need to take into account the currency differential.
