Post subject: | Problems with Ling bought from pre-owned watch retailers |
Dear, experts, I am asking this on behalf of a friend whose Ling has started to go cranky. He bought a pre-owned Ling from Mayors about 10 months ago. It came without the papers but Mayors told him that a complete inspection, cleaning and servicing was performed before the watch was put on sale, and Mayors promised a two-year warranty to cover problems. However, his watch started giving him problems recently. He brought it to a close friend of his who's a watch expert and was told that the hands and dial were damaged and would have to be replaced. He was also told that the middle case might possibly be damaged and might have to be replaced if it fails a water resistance test. The question now is, should he return the watch to Mayors for inspection, servicing and repairs, or would he be better off sending the watch back to BUSA for the full works? Does anyone know if Mayors or other pre-owned watch retailers conduct the servicing and repairs themselves and use authentic Breitling parts for the repairs, or do they have some form of servicing contract with BUSA to service and repair such pre-owned watches? My friend is concerned that unauthorized repairs would render his watch 'unserviceable' and 'unrepairable' by BUSA in the future. Thanks in advance for the advice. |

Without knowing what's wrong with the watch then it's difficult to say for sure what should be done. The watch will require Breitling attention, especially if we are talking major parts like case and dial (although that sounds very dramatic for a watch that hasn't suffered a catastrrophic event). If Mayors is a Breitling Authorised Dealer then there is no reisk with them doing the work, if they aren't then I wouldn't use them because they can't access Breitling parts. |

Thanks Prof for the advice. The only catastrophic event the watch experienced was a drop on the road from a height of about 4 feet - did not expect this to cause the watch to turn cranky if indeed the case. To all Ling experts in the US - does anybody know if Mayors is indeed a Ling AD? I am currently overseas on the other side of the globe and will only be back 6 months later, so contacting Mayors through phone will be a problem because of the time difference. Also, my email to them has not been answered for some time... |

A drop of a watch from that height could very easily and very likely damage the watch severly. You need to check breitling.com and thier list of AD's to see if mayors is an AD. You can search by country, state city etc. |

There's a Reeds Jewelers by my house that sells Breitlings, the Reeds website says they're an AD, but on the Breitling website they aren't listed. How can I find out if they really are, should I just call Breitling customer service? |

Yes sometimes it takes a very long time to get on their website. This happen with a store in my town. He kept saying he was an AD and I kept checking. Took almost a year I think for him to get on the website.Hmmmm may have to make a visit this weekend in fact. |
